NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: SECRET OF THE TOMB (2014) REVIEW

A run of the mill adventure flick that if nothing else will make the kids happy.

2.5 out of 5 STARS.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE (2016) REVIEW

The only reason I gave this film 3 stars is because I like this movie even if it is a bit of a high rating I'm just a sucker for a superhero flick good or bad. Now this film wanted to and tried HARD to be the X-Men franchises Infinity War / Endgame but it ends up feeling like a cheap imitation. I thought that the main villain was never any real threat. He was supposed to be on par with Thanos, Galactus and others but it was like he carried no real weight. All in all I did enjoy this film but you may or may not depending on how familiar you are with source material, not the worst I've ever seen but it's not great either.

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981) REVIEW

A fun popcorn film, the sections based around the world trade centre haven't particularly aged well but that's not the films fault. Absolutely loved the ending, definitely recommend you watch this movie.

SEVERANCE (2006) REVIEW

If you're looking for a well made and genuinely funny horror comedy than look no further, give this film a shot!

BORAT (2006) REVIEW

Wasn't as funny as I remembered it being 15 years ago when I was younger, but it still got a fair few laughs out of me.

DEAD MEN DON'T WEAR PLAID (1982) REVIEW

A witty and charming love letter to the golden age of Hollywood. Carlos was my favorite supporting character, he was hilarious.

DVD HAUL! (28TH SEP)

I go hunting for films most weekends and this weekend was no exception! I went to various thrift stores and second hand shops and after all was said and done I walked away with 27 films. Some of these movies I have no idea about and some I have seen before and will watch again!

IT CAME FROM THE BARGAIN BIN! (24TH SEP)

Was shopping at my local grocery store the other day when I found a bargain of DVDs. I love a good bargain bin whenever I come across one as you can find all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff. I couldn't help myself and picked up 8 films that seemed interesting, I haven't heard of any of these films before so it'll be fun to give them a go. It turned into a nice little haul.

STAND BY ME (1986) REVIEW

A heartwarming coming of age film that is a very unique Stephen King adaptation.

XMEN: THE LAST STAND (2006) REVIEW

Definitely a product of that weird early 2000s comic book movie era.

2.5 out of 5 STARS.

SPREE (2015) REVIEW

A 70 minute slow burn that doesn't outstay it's welcome. It's a haunting film that visually is a treat.

TONY: LONDON SERIAL KILLER (2009) REVIEW

An interesting portrait of a man who at first glance, seems unremarkable with his mediocre life but is in fact a calculated and unstable serial killer. This movie shows that anybody can be capable of horrible things.

3 out of 5 STARS.

PASTACOLYPSE (2023) REVIEW

Not very funny but the film grew on me as it went on. Feels like it'd be more at home as an adult swim series as this kind of just felt like a feature length pilot episode.

2.5 out of 5 STARS.

NEFARIOUS (2023) REVIEW

Glued to the screen from start to finish. Sean Patrick Flanery gives an absolute riveting performance and was phenomenal in this film. Definitely a must watch for horror fans.

4.5 out of 5 STARS.

THE FUNHOUSE MASSACRE (2015) REVIEW

With cheesy gore, above average acting and lots of laughs sprinkled throughout, This low budget slasher flick is way better than it has any right to be.

3 out of 5 STARS.

TRANSFORMERS ONE (2024) REVIEW

Hands down the BEST Transformers film I've seen in a very long time animated or otherwise. I know the phrase fun for the whole family gets thrown around a lot but it absolutely applies here. Go and see this movie because I was over the moon with how much better it was than I had anticipated.

THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE ON THE RUN (2020) REVIEW

This movie was heaps of fun, I still can't believe that Keanu Reeves, Snoop Dogg and Danny Trejo all make appearances. I enjoyed it a lot and it got a few solid chuckles out of me. This movie is leaps and bounds better than the Sandy Cheeks flick that came after.

Doesn't reinvent the wheel, but that's because it doesn't need too. A fun time.

BOY KILLS WORLD (2023) REVIEW

Absolute bonkers masterclass in action filmmaking. Loved it from start to finish.

8 HEADS IN A DUFFEL BAG (1997) REVIEW

David Spade is the best part in this otherwise unfunny comedy flick.

1.5 out of 5 STARS.

I, ROBOT (2004) REVIEW

Futuristic yet dated, the story contains more than enough for this to be a thoroughly enjoyable film.

3.5 out of 5 STARS.

THE LAST AIRBENDER (2010) REVIEW

This is bad even by Shyamalan standards. White washed cast with bad acting, dialogue with too much exposition and one note delivery. Turned it off after watching the first 15 minutes.

0.5 out of 5 STARS.

$9.99 (2008) REVIEW

I'm certain that in this film there is a big profound lesson of some description, but for the life of me I have no idea what that lesson is and I've watched this movie twice.

1.5 out of 5 STARS.

DANTE'S INFERNO (2007) REVIEW

A feature length puppet show which is more than enough reason to watch alone. This film is a wonderfully original take on the source material.

4 out of 5 STARS.

INDIANA JONES & THE RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981) REVIEW

A classic adventure flick, perfect if you want to turn your brain off and sit back with a bucket of popcorn.

THE EMOJI MOVIE (2017) REVIEW

I mean come on guys you're watching a film called "The Emoji Movie", of course it's going to be bland and forgettable.

DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY (1993) REVIEW

An entertaining yet poorly aged biopic with hammy acting, cheesy early 90s Kung Fu action sequences and even cheesier one liners and dialogue. This movie is an example of being a absolute cheese fest and also a fun time.

3 out of 5 STARS.

VULGAR (2000) REVIEW

Just a gross movie and not in a smart way.

1.5 out of 5 STARS.

SPEAK NO EVIL (2024) REVIEW

Nothing really happens until the final half of the film and when it does it's your standard horror movie stuff. I really wanted to enjoy this movie because I'm a James McAvoy fan but the film as a whole was pretty boring.

2 out of 5 STARS.

HAPPY GILMORE (1996) REVIEW

Didn't find it as funny as what people have told me but I still found it to be a very enjoyable affair.

3 out of 5 STARS.

PRISONERS OF THE GHOSTLAND (2021) REVIEW

With a bigger budget this film could of went a long way. I feel like with this concept you need to go all out with CGI, set designs etc and it just wasn't there at all, definitely felt like it was trying to be a Hollywood blockbuster on a straight to DVD level.

2 out of 5 STARS.

JERSEY GIRL (2004) REVIEW

More subdued than other Kevin Smith films, Jersey Girl still has all the charm.

4 out of 5 STARS.

THE PLATFORM (2019) REVIEW

A uniquely original dystopian horror film that is all kinds of messed up.

3.5 out of 5 STARS.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS (2000) REVIEW

Bad acting, terrible CGI that looks like something off an early PS2 game, chunky dialogue with a script full of plot holes... So can someone PLEASE tell me why I enjoyed this as much as I did? Jeremy Irons clearly took the role for the pay day but is the definite highlight as he hams it up and has a blast.

3 out of 5 STARS.

LONGLEGS (2024) REVIEW

Thoroughly enjoyed it, Nic cage was great as the big bad 💯 this film is in the same vein as the black phone not scary but more creepy. Definitely worth a watch.

3.5 out of 5 STARS.

BORDERLANDS (2024) REVIEW

A fun yet forgettable popcorn flick, jack black as clap trap was the highlight of the film for me.

THE RATING SYSTEM

When reviewing a film I follow a simple five star system.

It is the same as the rotten tomatoes rating system essentially though I have a self imposed rule.

IF the movie I am viewing is so terrible that I turn it off, it automatically receives half a star no matter what.

As a film buff I'll give any film a try, I love weird and wonderful and the medium of cinema certainly can be just that.

BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE (2024) REVIEW

A fun time overall but had a run of the mill story. The villains didn't really hold much weight.

3 out of 5 STARS.

BEAU IS AFRAID (2023) REVIEW

I went into this film blind and oh boy. This movie was a three hour craze fest of epic proportions that makes me wonder how someone comes up with this stuff. Just go and watch it for yourself!

WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING (2022) REVIEW

A captivating watch.

TROPIC THUNDER (2008) REVIEW

A truly funny and original take on the war film genre.

3.5 out of 5 STARS.

THE DELIVERANCE (2024) REVIEW

This movie was bad, first off the main character was horribly unlikable, I thought maybe she might redeem herself as the movie went on but she doesn't. The film itself feels half baked and is not scary at all, it kind of feels like they had a brain storming session and every idea they came up with ended up in the script even if it didn't work with the film. The ending made me rethink my life choices up until that point. Not worth the two hours of your time.

1.5 out of 5 STARS.

DAY SHIFT (2022) REVIEW

THE WHALE (2022) REVIEW

ZOOLANDER (2001) REVIEW

I know this is supposed to be a classic BUT I ended up turning it off as I just didn't find it funny.

BLINK TWICE (2024) REVIEW

For a debut film Zoe Kravitz could of done a lot worse but instead gives us a solid outing in the directors chair even if it drags a little towards the end. Channing Tatum clearly enjoyed himself in the role.

3.5 out of 5 STARS

PSYCHO COP (1989) REVIEW

A shlocky so bad its good slasher B movie, whichever company did the transfer from VHS to DVD did it so poorly that audio cuts out at certain points which adds to the charm of the film.

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: SECRET OF THE TOMB (2014) REVIEW
